What is Tae Kwon Do ?
TAE- means to jump, kick with the foot. KWON- means to punch, block, with the fist. DO- means art, way, method of.
Tae Kwon Do is a a martial art developed in Korea, from Karate, during the early 1950's. On April 11th 1955 the name Tae Kwon Do was given to this new martial art, after many years of development, by a group of leading Korean martial artists headed by the person known as the founding father of Tae Kwon Do, Major General Choi Hong Hi.
It was introduced to the UK in 1967, and the TAGB, the Tae Kwon Do Association of Great Britain, was formed in 1983.
Master Graham Churchill 7th Dan, founded the Lincoln TKD school in 1989, and Sheffield TKD classes in 1990, and took over as instructor at Doncaster TKD in 1998. Doncaster TKD was founded in 1975, and is the academy where Master Churchill started in Tae Kwon Do as a beginner.
